Kids Hope USA

one student, one hour

March 04, 2007

We are a Kids Hope USA elementary school!  The Miles Presbyterian Church began implementing this program by placing 11 trained mentors into our elementary schools in January.  Each mentor is assigned one student that they meet with for one hour each week throughout that student’s time in elementary school.  A kindergarten student assigned a mentor will have that same mentor for their six years in elementary school.  Mentors are able to develop a meaningful, long-term relationship with their student.

One child, one hour is the heart of KIDS HOPE USA -- with one caring adult mentoring an at-risk child one hour every week. Because when kids feel loved and valued, they are better able to learn, grow, and succeed. But one church, one school is its brilliance. KIDS HOPE USA is a church-based model because churches are better positioned to recruit volunteer mentors who will be faithful over the long haul. These volunteer mentors are loyal to the KIDS HOPE USA program since their church operates and funds it.

For more information, please contact the school (563-682-7131) or our local director, Sara Hankemeier (563-682-7431 / hankemed@netins.net).  The Kids Hope USA website is also a great resource!
