East Central Music Department Newsletter

As a parent/guardian of an East Central band and/or chorus member, there are a few things you need to know.  Please read the following to give you an idea of what is expected from you and your student.

Fundraising

Students are expected to pay and/or raise money through their school music career.  This money is used to keep uniforms in top condition and to help defray the cost of the Washington, D.C. trip that is taken every four years.  The music boosters oversee several fundraisers throughout the year that students are encouraged to participate in.  Look for information about them this fall.  If you do not see anything, ASK YOUR CHILD!!

Concerts

Stadium concert:  This involves both middle and high school band members and takes place in late October.

Holiday concert:  Band, chorus and swing choir perform.  Each student is  to furnish 1 dozen cookies.  Sophomore parents help with concessions before and during the concert and clean up afterward.

Pops concert:  Chorus, swing choir, and individual acts perform.  Each student is to furnish 1 dozen cookies/bars – uncut.

Spring Concert:  Band and chorus perform.  Freshman and sophomore students furnish a pan of bars.

Uniforms

Band

Marching uniform:  for Moving and Marching on the Mississippi in Bellevue, State Marching, Stadium concert, football games, and Dutch Days.  Your student will be fitted in the fall with pants, coat, cape, hat and shoes.  Be sure all uniform parts are together!  They are marked and recorded with your child’s name and they are responsible for the condition of the uniform until it is handed in after the final performance in the spring.  DO NOT wash uniforms yourself. If it needs to be washed, let Mr. Creger know as soon as possible.  DO NOT allow shoes to be kept in the hat box.

Green shirt:  for Memorial Day and Thresher Days parades.  This shirt is available to purchase at the school.

Chorus

Formal dress: for Bellevue Festival, Christmas and spring concerts.  Your child will be fitted in the fall with tuxedo pants, white shirt, black tie for the men and a black skirt and white shirt for the women.  Black socks for men and black shoes for men and women need to be supplied by student.  Swing choir members will have identical shoes which may be found at school or purchased.

Casual dress: for pops concert (everyone), Dutch Days and Thresher’s (swing choir).  Green shirts are available from the school for purchase.  Tan or khaki pants are furnished by the student.

UNIFORM CARE and LAUNDERING

Chorus uniforms may be washed in cold water on a gentle cycle. Hang to dry.

Band uniforms need to be cleaned by the school!!!
