Fine Arts: Music Boosters

Music Booster Minutes-September 2008

by Tori Creger

September 23, 2008

The East Central Music Boosters met on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 @ 8:00 PM in the Home Ec. Room with 15 members present. The secretary’s minutes and the treasurer’s report were handed out and read. President Deana Jacobs asked for these to be approved as read. This was passed by all in attendance.

OLD BUSINESS
There was no new information about the EC Music t-shirts for Washington D.C. Kristi Seamer will continue to work on this.

The Sabula Trail Ride Lunch Stand was a great success. The profit was $617.30 which included a donation from the organizers of the Trail Ride. Deana thanked Kristi Seamer and Paula Meyermann for organizing this fundraiser. Hamburger meat and bars were donated and Ernie Schulz had a great grilling team. 5 students helped out at the Lunch Stand.

Jerry Creger provided us with an update on the Washington D.C. trip. He received another quote from Group Travel Planners. The itinerary looks similar to the other quote from New Horizon Tour Co. but some additional stops would have to be added to this quote to be the same as New Horizon. We also have used the New Horizon Tour Co. before and it was a great success. Ann made a motion to let Laura Horst and Jerry Creger decide which one of the two groups we will use for the trip. Heidi Lippens seconded. Motion passed.

The Stadium Concert is still Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Since this is the date, Heidi L. said that she would again head up the Soup Supper. She thought she would have plenty of help getting things ready and would let Laura H. know what supplies she would need the kids to contribute.

NEW BUSINESS
Kathy Rickertsen contacted Wendy’s about their fundraiser. She signed East Central up for the 4th Monday of every month except for December from 5 – 7 PM. Two people are needed for each of these nights. At least one of the two people must be an adult. One person is needed at 4:45 and the second at 5:00. Basically they will be there to greet people but other activities like a coloring contest or raffle can be done during that time as well. East Central will receive 10% profit from all sales during that two hour period. Kathy R. signed up for the Sept. 22nd night and Kris Wall said she would help. People are needed to cover Oct 27th. Laura H. and Cindy Myers signed up for the Nov. 24th night. Please contact Kathy R. to sign up for October, January, February, etc. as soon as possible. Please wear your green choir shirt when participating in the greeting at Wendy’s that night.

Kathy R. also contacted Pizza Ranch. The only two nights that were left on their calendar were Monday, March 9th, and Monday, April 13th, from 5 – 8 PM. We will receive 10% of the profit during that time period and any tips that we are given. Here we will greet and help fill napkin holders, get refills and help bus tables. Pizza Ranch asks that we have 1 adult and 5 students to help out each night.

Laura Horst had another fundraising suggestion. She suggested hosting a Patriotic Concert at which both the Middle School students and the High School students would perform. All the choir students would wear patriotic colors. She will try to find a date the first week of November to do this. It was suggested trying to have it on Election Night, Tuesday, November 4th. We will pass the hat at this concert and advertise it as a fundraising concert for the Washington D.C. trip. We will discuss this concert further at the October meeting.

Ann Keeney suggested collecting scrap steel. We could advertise it and tell people we would help pick it up. Trucks and trailers would be needed as well as students to help load it.

Ann also suggested another idea about raffling off a Flat Screen TV. Each student would be asked to sell 10 tickets. The TV would be raffled off during the basketball season. Ernie S. made a motion to purchase a TV and raffle it off at the last home basketball game. Paula M. seconded. Motion passed with a unanimous vote. Ann said they would try to get the TV at a discount. Ernie will check on some TV discounts too.

Cindy Myers found out about a Village Inn Fundraiser. We would be selling a certificate to people and they could take it to Village Inn and pick out their pie. The manager said the certificates say they are good for just certain pies but he lets them get whatever they want. For instance, if we got 500 certificates, each pie sold would cost us $7.25 and we could sell each certificate for as much as we wanted to. The manager recommended $10 - $11 for each. This might be a good fundraiser around Christmas or maybe in the spring around Easter time. This will be discussed further later.

Kathy R. also said she checked with McDonalds and we could buy McDonald’s Dollars. $1000 in McDonald’s dollars would cost us $500. She wasn’t sure if this was a good deal or not.

Laura H. got a letter from Kwik Trip (also Kwik Star) about Kwik card rewards accounts. She said that we need at least 5 Kwik card rewards account for money to be donated to East Central Music. We will receive 15% of eligible purchases and 3 cents for every gallon of gas that people with the cards purchase. Please go and sign up for a Kwik card. It doesn’t cost you anything and we get some profit.

The next meeting of the East Central Music Boosters will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 7:00 PM. Jerry C. made a motion to adjourn. Ernie S. seconded. Motion passed.

Respectfully submitted

Cindy Myers, Secretary
