Music Booster Minutes-March 2009
by Tori Creger
March 27, 2009
The East Central Music Boosters met on Thursday, March 19, 2009
@ 7:00 PM in the Choir Room with 11 members present. President,
Deana Jacobs, called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. The
secretary’s minutes and the treasurer’s report were handed out and
approved as read. No bills were presented in at this time.
OLD BUSINESS
The Pops Concert was reported on by Laura Horst. Suggestions were
made that kids are needed to help backstage moving equipment and
that it would be fun to have an MC announcing and moving the
concert along.
Kathy Rickertsen presented her notes on the Potato Bar. They sold
139 potatoes. Last year only 111 potatoes were sold. 95% of the
students brought in their assigned items. They ran short on sour
cream. The leftovers were sold. Kathy mentioned that they were
short on student workers. The cafeteria was very full with
customers and some had to stand to eat. She did not ask Fareway to
donate anything this year. It was suggested that next year we ask
Fareway to donate the sour cream and just get the potatoes from
Hy-Vee. The Campbell’s Broccoli Cheese soup worked very well.
Laura reported on Pizza Ranch from March 9th. Brad Ries and Steve
McCloy were the adult chaperones and 10 or 11 kids signed up to
work. Brad Ries has agreed to chaperone again on April 13th but
Laura will also go. She will have kids that need money in their
account sign up again.
Wendy’s Night on March 23rd was hosted by the Frahm family. It was
suggested that maybe we can have the Raider Mascot out front for
the April 27th Wendy’s night since the weather will be nicer and it
will be lighter outside. This will be the last Wendy’s night this
year since we have to be in school the day we work and the last
Monday of May is Memorial Day.
Calendars have been selling very well this year. The final candle
sales and TV Raffle profit were reported. There was no further
information on the East Central Shopping bags at this time.
The MS Band/Choir/Piano Contest on March 5th went well. The kids
performed their pieces and sang very well and impressed the judges.
Their good performance was in spite of the shortened rehearsal time
this year due to days missed of school.
The Conference Speech Contest on February 26th went smoothly. Most
of the workers were able to show up and help both in the
Concessions Stand and as Room Monitors. Marci Rickords had many
compliments on how well the night went. She was very thankful for
our help.
Jerry Creger gave us an update on the trip. The itinerary has been
updated including the change of our visit to Arlington National
Cemetery to June 1st and the Wreath Laying Ceremony will be at
4:15. We will arrive there at 2:00 so that everyone can visit the
other grave sites. The bus company was also able to get us into the
Twilight Tattoo. We will be staying at the Comfort Inn Capital
Beltway Hotel. They are still trying to get us in for a Capitol
tour. They told us there were no free Holocaust Museum tickets but
they could get us tickets for a nominal fee.
Paula Meyermann discussed our financial situation. We need to make
the final payment to the bus company. People on the third bus need
to pay by April 1st. We also need 10 more people on the third bus
to avoid surcharges and reduce our cost. We have advertised seats
in the newsletter and on the website. 15 people have dropped out of
the third bus at this point. It was suggested that an ad in the
Clinton Herald, Preston Times and the Bellevue and Maquoketa papers
be taken out unless they will accept an article about the trip for
free. Laura will take care of this. Paula, Kristi Seamer, and Cindy
Myers offered to call the people on the third bus and ask if they
could pay off their trip before April 1st.
NEW BUSINESS
The High School Fine Arts Concert will be held May 11th. The Middle
School Spring Concert will be May 5th. The Sabula Elementary
concert will be April 23rd and the Miles Elementary Concert will be
April 28th.
The next meeting of the East Central Music Boosters will be held on
Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 7:00 PM. A motion to adjourn was made by
Jerry, seconded by Paula. The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Cindy Myers, Secretary
